I’m Meyer Baron, the man behind 1SmartPuppy.
My business philosophy is simple: If I keep my clients happy, they will keep me happy. To that end, I observe a few basic rules:
- Function as a strategic, tactical, and creative partner who is fundamentally concerned with your success
- Maintain an open flow of communication
- Never miss a deadline
Beyond these rules, my clients appreciate these five things that make me different from many other freelance copywriters.
1. Think like a marketer, write like a storyteller.
For your business to succeed online, you have to create a clear and persuasive path that moves visitors from the search engine, social media platform or email link to the call to action (CTA). There could be quite a few stops between link and CTA, and they all need to be connected.
The writer must weave all those pieces together with a story that leads prospects to clicking the call to action.
2. Use research and analysis to develop content strategies and tactics
Through research and analysis, I develop your Buyer Personas, Competitive Analysis, and Brand Position. This information is critical to determining:
- Who your ideal customers are
- What content will be essential to them
- How you can use content to stand out from the competition
The final result is your Content Bridge content strategy, an invaluable marketing intelligence tool I began creating in 2001 and have been refining ever since.
3. Apply creative thinking to the business case
As one longtime client described it,
Unlike many consultants, who polish what you tell them and serve it right back to you, Meyer always raises the conversation to the next level. I don’t have to explain everything to him. He quickly grasps the business case and translates it into an actionable marketing strategy.
4. Draw from an unusual and broad range of successful experience
My ability to write engaging stories was first recognized by my father, who would call upon me to write commercials and promotional copy for his radio station.
College days in Washington, DC were spent mainly in area theaters, where I did everything from stagehand work to designing sets and lights to acting and directing. This led me to my first career, working on new plays and musicals in Washington, New York, and Baltimore as a stagehand, stage manager, designer, producer and director.
With marriage and fatherhood came the realization that I needed a steadier and more dependable source of income. Marketing and advertising called, and I answered.
Since 1989, I’ve worked with organizations of all shapes and sizes to tell their stories and help them achieve their marketing goals. My career path has presented me with my share of challenges and triumphs:
- Small business marketing/advertising consultant
- In-house direct marketing copywriter
- eCommerce manager
- Communications director for B2B startup
- Senior analyst for user experience consultancy
- Marketing strategist & brand positioning consultant
- Inbound marketer and HubSpot certified partner
- Freelance copywriter, website writer, and content marketing strategist
5. Become a part of your team
I love what I do. When I accept you as a new client, I will love what you do. I will be a champion for your business. For me, that means going the extra mile to:
- Look for every opportunity to help you succeed
- Be an enthusiastic and low-maintenance team player
- Complete every project on-time and on-budget
Add it all up
